HyWeb, 2010-01-19: The Hamburger Hochbahn AG, public transport operator in Hamburg, plans to purchase 60 to 70 fuel cell buses each year from 2018 onwards. As a reaction to the increasing prices of mineral oil and diesel, the fuel cell buses are to enter service in the local and regional public transport system instead of diesel buses. Six first-generation fuel cell buses Mercedes-Benz “Citaro” are operating in Hamburg already today. Within this year the company will receive the first batch of altogether ten next-generation fuel cell hybrid buses from Daimler for the public transport. Stated aim of the company is to completely electrify local public transport.
