JI Joint Implementation

Joint Implementation process provides industrialised countries with a further tool for keeping their granted emission limit.

Early-JI

Early- JI projects allow countries to gather experience with the relevant procedures before 2008. Instead of generating Emission Reduction Units cutbacks are taken into account on the national emission budget of the investor, assuming the investor is the sole beneficiary. The budget of the host will decrease respectively.

De facto Assigned Amount Units are traded instead of Emission Reduction Units. The term Forward on Assigned Amounts is generally applied for illustrating international trade of Assigned Amounts in the period between 2000 and 2008.
Forwards can be transferred as soon as the abatement is formally confirmed by an independent institution. Acquired Forwards could also be resold internationally.
